Delta Climate Center

More than 500 million people worldwide live in deltas. Their livability is under pressure from sea level rise and ecosystem degradation, among other things. How do we create sustainable, climate-resistant and prosperous deltas? This question is the focus of the Delta Climate Center.

About the Delta Climate Center

Water, food and energy

The Delta Climate Center in Vlissingen is embarking on education and research on water and energy management and new forms of food supply. The Delta Climate Center is developing a continuous learning line for students in secondary and higher vocational education. There will also be new courses at knowledge institutions in Zeeland. The research focuses on the themes of water, energy, food and bio-resources. The Delta Climate Center also stimulates business development and startups dealing with water, food and energy. The Zeeland delta is the Delta Climate Center's living lab. Here, multiple parties work on solutions to climate and sustainability issues in deltas.

The state, the province of Zeeland, the municipality of Vlissingen and several other parties in Zeeland are working together to implement the "Wind in the sails" package. The package serves as compensation for the cancellation of the relocation of the Marine Barracks to Vlissingen. This package contains various measures to invest heavily in Zeeland, both economically and socially. The Delta Climate Center is part of this package.
