Accelerating regional transitions
The Delta Climate Center applies various methods and tools to accelerate regional transitions
How can we accelerate regional transitions towards a sustainable, climate-proof and prosperous delta? How to get a better understanding of the interdependencies between different transitions? How to integrate theories, knowledge, approaches from various disciplines (e.g. the natural sciences, technical engineering, social, economic and legal disciplines) and combine it with the wisdom and practical experience of many different actors (e.g. companies, governments, societal organisations, citizens)?
Given the complexity of the challenge, the Delta Climate Center invests in collecting, combining and (further) developing various methods and tools to create new insights and solutions, specifically aimed at the context in Zeeland.
Key Enabling Methodologies
Key Enabling Methodologies (KEMs) are a group of methods, strategies, processes and tools that can contribute to solving societal challenges. Some important KEMs that we apply in the DCC are:
- Vision & Imagination
- Participation & Co-creation
- Experimental environments (living labs)
- System change (system thinking, system dynamics)
- Ethics and responsibility
Key Enabling Technologies
We invest in the application of various digital, immersive and information technologies to accelerate the transitions. These include:
- Visualizations that contribute to imagination;
- Immersive technologies (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality/Serious Games) for storytelling and creating an experience;
- AI, data science, digital twins and modeling of 'what if scenarios' to support decision and policy making.
