PhD Candidate
I am a scientist with strong interests in marine biology/ecology and sustainable aquaculture.
My research project focuses on the transition to a sustainable, climate change-resilient food system based on low trophic protein sources (e.g. shellfish, seaweed), cultivated in a nature-inclusive manner in the marine environment in Zeeland. The project will assess how seagrass and seaweed may improve the health of low trophic aquaculture (LTA) species (e.g. mussels, oysters, but also effects of seagrasses on seaweed production), and whether they can protect them from pathogen and disease.
The results of my research aim to develop sustainable methods to produce healthier and higher quality seafood, and improve seafood security, human health, and the marine ecosystem in Zeeland.
